Looking for ftf or pbm in the Tidewater VA area

Postby Agmar » Sat Jan 09, 2010 11:30 am

Did most of my game playing in the 60's and 70's. I'm willing to learn new ones but prefer the 'classics'. Best way to reach me is by cell '757-343-6381'.

Agmar:

What games do you have? I have mine listed on my post except I forgot Stalingrad. I have not played by email before but would like to try. Have you played by email before? Do younhave any of the past forms used? If we decide to play a game we both have I will need to do spreadsheet we can use unless you already have one. We will then need to decide the dice roll thing how to do that. Have you used the web site Craig suggests for this? Let me know so I can call you and work out the details.

Joe:

If it was published prior to 1980 I probably have it. The question is 'where' since I have lost a wife, gotten a new one, bought a new home and move two or three times since I've been able to find a player. To top it off, one of my children are using the room I use for storage of games as a bedroom until they can move to their new place. So let me know the ones you are interested in and I will try to unearth them.

I use to pbm (although nothing can replace a good ftf) all the time in the 60's and 70's when I worked for AH and TSR, but I have never done any pbem so I will consider myself a novice to this phase.

I think all my pbm went to the big paper bin in the sky during my last move, but when I can, I'll mount an expedition into the storage are to look.

Neil:

If you go to my posting I have listed what I have plus Stalingrad. Find out what you have and see if we match. If not you can obtain many of these games on EBAY by typing in Avalon Hill War games in the search box. I got a few for under $10.00 not including shipping (usually shipping is around $12-15). Some I got for under $20.00. Most should be under $20.00 at the end if they are punched. If you are going to buy anything on EBAY there is a science to it if you want to win. If you haven't bought there before I can call you with some good hints. This web site (AH General) sells the counters of several games in case you are missing them or want a fresh look. I have ordered new counters for most of mine. You can also buy the maps of several games from this website. With the CD AH offers, new counters and maps you will have the game without the box of course. Once you are ready to play let me know by email, brindlejrb@comcast.net, and I will prepare a spreadsheet for the game we will play. It will include all units, grid location, date of turn, etc. Depends on the game as to the spreadsheet. I like the Classic games too. Good luck. If you find your PBM paperwork let me know. I would be interested in seeing it. Hope you want to play when you are ready. By the way what is Ftf? I am not a gamer and have not even played all the games I have. You will have a distinct advantage there if you played them a lot.

Just joined up here and saw your post. Haven't had any ftf time in quite a while, but can learn any method you prefer. Live in the Suffolk area. Have an extensive collection of games. Let me know if you're interested. Thanks. Rob C.

I have a fairly active group of boardwargamers in the Norfolk area. Lots of ASL and board naval games. You probably can find a face to face opponent if you are flexible on the game you play.

I am personally interested in games of Midway, Bismarck, Alexander, Alesia, 1776, WAS, VITP, Chancellorsville. Also just bought the Caesar in Gual game. Playing a lot of Great Campaigns of the Civil War lately.

Email me at oceanweather-at-aol-dot-com if interested in a game and getting on our email distro list.
